In 2001 a group of "St. Catherine-ites" saw the need to establish a Foundation to streamline the coming together of parish loyals to rediscover, popularize and plan for future development of the Parish.

There is a little bit of St. Catherine in every Jamaican as all births are recorded, registered and stored in the Record Office in Spanish Town, the first capital city, founded by Royal decree in 1534 - thereby making it 242 years older than the creation of the U.S.A.

Every brick building and street in the Parish has a story; that's why we invite you to come and rediscover the mountains hosting endemic flora and fauna, streams and rivers believed to have golden tables and river "Mummas", a natural bridge, caves with Tainos pictographs, Spanish aqueducts.

Take a walk on the first cast iron bridge in the Western Hemisphere and pray in the first Anglican Cathedral outside of England and visit the First Village in Sligoville.

St. Catherine is the only Parish in Jamaica where, you can:
  • Go to church
  • Explore a cave first inhibited by Tainos, Kitson Town
or Two Sisters' Cave in Hellshire
  • Take a nature trail
  • Play polo or golf (on an 18-hole championship course)
  • Tour a sugar factory where you can taste some sugar
    and spirits
  • Tour an old Cathedral or church
  • Visit a ruin
  • Swim in a river (Rio Cobre) or lay on a beach
    (Fort Clarence/Hellshire
  • Picnic on an island (Goat Island)

    army of occupation - Guanabovale
  • Climb a mountain (Sligoville, Juan de Bolas, Mount Rosser)
  • Feast on fish, bammy and or festival
  • Study architecture (Historic Square)
  • Research family roots (at the Jamaica Archives)
  • Enjoy a race at the Race Track (Caymanas)
  • Camping - (High gate Pk.)
  • The oldest free Village in Jamaica (Sligoville)
  • Visit the largest castle in Jamaica (Colbeck)
  • Drive through a Gorge (Bog Walk)
  • Visit the oldest city in the English-speaking Caribbean (Spanish Town)
We have the attractions but the infrastructure needs help.

The foundation has identified areas that need immediate attention and has formed an Executive Committee as noted hereunder; to spearhead the objectives of the Foundation as it is mandated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
