Trelawny braces
As of 1:15 this afternoon, reports coming from Deonne Hylton-Lewis, disaster parish coordinator for Trelawny, were that 106 shelters were on standby, two of which were already opened.
The Holland High School and the Hague Primary School are the shelters, already open and 62 residents from the Falmouth Infirmary have already been relocated to the latter.
Hylton-Lewis also said the emergency operation centre at the Falmouth Roads and Works building was open.
While most businesses in the parish were battening down, persons scampered to get all they needed for preparation before they finally closed. Though this was happening, it could not be said that the average person was paying much attention to the hurricane warning or the severity of the storm. With that being the case, very few homes were being barricaded.
Member of Parliament, Dr Patrick Harris, encouraged people in places deemed dangerous to go to shelters before the storm because access might be limited during its passing.
