Schools to Open
The Ministry of Education has pushed back the opening of schools to next week Wednesday, September 3.
Chief Education Officer in the Ministry Jasper Lawrence says the decision was made in order to allow some students and teachers to be better prepared following the effects of Tropical Storm Gustav.
He says those schools which are unable to reopen on Wednesday due to damage sustained during the storm should make contact with their respective regional offices to arrange for a later date.
Meanwhile, the University of the West Indies, UWI Mona is advising that normal operations will resume at the campus on Monday.
The UWI administration says in light of the disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Gustav, registration will be extended for another two days to Tuesday.
Classes are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
The UWI is also advising students at the Western Jamaica Campus that registration and academic counselling will go ahead as scheduled tomorrow.
Meanwhile the University of Technology says it will resume classes tomorrow for all part-time and full-time students.
