The UWI Press has published in the ten years of its existence over 160 good and original manuscripts. Thanks to the vigilant eyes and ears of an excellent editorial and management team the editorial strategy employed has worked to assure a national and global reputation for relevant and quality publications in a wide range of disciplines. The steep curve to excellence they have negotiated within the publishing community is indicative of the commitment of the university to the Caribbean intellectual tradition.
But the Press has only just begun. There are many new exciting discourses emerging within the regional space, many of which relate to the intense predicaments of a globalized humanity, which await its editorial reflection and engagement. The management team, I am reliably informed, has made a pact with authors, distributors and readers. It may best be expressed in the challenging words; "You haven't seen anything yet!" To take this stance upon the evidence of a past, to constitute a tradition, the Press will have little choice but to improve upon the goodness and originality that has marked its highly productive journey to the present. |
