Description: The University of Technology, Jamaica aims to recruit a Research Fellow to join a new research center dedicated to the creation of non-adversarial serious gaming interventions for education settings for the prevention of violence against women and girls. Funded by the UK Global Challenges Research Fund ( GCRF), the None in Three Centre is based at the University of Huddersfield, UK and involves a partnership with universities in China, Jamaica, India, and Uganda. Its aim is to build a cadre of social scientists and technicians skilled in the development of educational computer games, advanced research methodologies and policy formulation focused on changing some of the social and cultural drivers of gender-based violence in each of participating countries. 

Position Description

Reporting to the Country Director , the role of Research Fellow is to undertake research, public engagement and other related activities in accordance with the objectives of the None in Three Centre.

The Main Responsibilities of the Position Are To:   
  1. Assist the Country Director to implement the 7 work packages in Jamaica
  2. Assist in the preparation of material for peer reviewed journal publication and research reports
  3. Representing the project in the absence of the Country Director
  4. Undertake the interpretation, evaluation and critique of exiting literature on gender-based violence (both quantitative and qualitative research methods and also, grey literature)
  5. Assist in the planning, execution and management of a range of quantitative to the research methods and data analysis appropriate to the research area for Work Packages 2 and 4
  6. Participate in team meetings and committees, as appropriate 
  7. Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Country Director
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a qualitative researcher with an earned PhD or Master's Level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in conducting social science research with human participants
  • An excellent understanding of skills  and knowledge required for conducting qualitative research
  • Experience in conducting systematic and/or thematic literature reviews and searching academic databases
  • Experience in writing journal publications, research reports and presentations
  • Experience in planning, implementing and managing projects aims at tackling social problems
  • Good theoretical knowledge of research on gender-based violence 
  • Ability to plan and organize own workload
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
