The successful candidate is expected to serve as a senior consultant to senior management on matters concerning human resource management, office administration, undergraduate programmes coordination, facilities management, and library/ documentation services, and to collaborate with managers generally in developing, communicating, and implementing related policies in the School. Specifically, the jobholder is responsible for, among other things, formulating general personnel policies; overseeing the employment and orientation processes; administering compensation and benefit plans; ensuring compliance with labour laws/consistency with union-management agreements; coordinating the appraisal, promotion, and termination of employees; conducting general office administration; overseeing the documentation of administrative processes and the coordination of undergraduate programmes; overseeing the management of facilities, the provision of support services, and the administration of the library/documentation centre.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A first degree in human resource management and a master’s degree in business administration, or vice versa, from an accredited programme/institution.
• 7-10 years’ progressive experience in human resource management and administration in a unionised environment.
• Professional certification in human resource management would be an asset.

Required Competencies:

• Knowledge of labour laws, regulations, and industrial practices.
• Knowledge of collective bargaining and contract administration.
• Knowledge of contract law and the contract of employment.
• Knowledge of payroll accounting.
• Knowledge of HRIS.
• Knowledge of copyright laws (Jamcopy).
• Superior oral and written communications skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent planning, organizing, and negotiating skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and leadership skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
• Ability to apply the principles of HRM to contribute to the success of the business.
• Ability to understand business functions and metrics within the organization.
• Ability to provide guidance to stakeholders and to adapt to changing situations.
• Ability to create a free flow of information among stakeholders at all levels to produce meaningful outcomes.
• Ability to demonstrate fairness and sound judgement in unfavourable or unpopular situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with personal, professional, behavioural integrity.

Knowledge of basic university management structure will be a distinct asset.
