Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Curator at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Museum, located at the UWI Regional Headquarters in Jamaica.

The Curator has responsibility for the overall management of the UWI Museum and is responsible for carrying through its mandate which is to reflect the history and development of the UWI and its contribution to the Caribbean region in whole and parts.

The Curator will conceive, conceptualize and implement relevant exhibitions and engage with diverse stakeholders to help showcase, through this medium, the work of the University and its contribution to the society. The duties include but are not limited to: Strengthening of the museum’s administrative, structural and policy framework, (including enhancement of capacity); cataloguing of the collection; building and interpretation of the collection; maintenance and enhancement of access to audio/visual resources; developing online potential; and enhancing communication and engagement with a range of stakeholders.

The Museum falls under the UWI Office of Administration and the Curator must have the capacity to develop linkages with various collaborators to access necessary technical and other supports.

The successful candidate will have a good academic record, with a strong history background and have, at minimum, a relevant Master’s degree; with a mix of professional qualification and experience in museum curation and management; strong organizational, management, critical-thinking and database management skills and knowledge of conservation practices. Excellent communications skills, knowledge and understanding of current online platforms including museum web presence and social media, would be an asset.
