Description: Farmer to Farmer Program

Partners of the Americas, is a private voluntary organization, engaged in the development of communities within the Western Hemisphere. Partners’ Farmer to Farmer Program seeks to improve economic opportunities in rural areas of Latin America and the Caribbean by increasing food production and distribution and promoting better farm and marketing operations. The program focuses on select agricultural commodity chains, and US volunteers provide specific technical assistance to small and medium producers, agro processors and others working at all levels of these chains. The Farmer to Farmer Program blends two goals: providing people-to-people level exchanges and promoting sustainable economic growth and development.

Principal Responsibilities

The Field Officer will assist the Country Director in the coordination and administration of in-country Farmer to Farmer program activities.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting the Country Director in designing and implementing Farmer to Farmer projects, in collaboration with program stakeholders;
• Identifying and working with organizations or individual value chain participants (farmers, processors, exporters etc.) in the selected value chains to participate in the program and receive Farmer to Farmer volunteer assistance;
• Developing clearly defined and detailed volunteer scopes of work;
• Helping to ensure that projects and volunteer assignments correspond to the work plan and meet Farmer to Farmer and Partners program standards;
• Assisting in oversight of in-country travel and logistics for all volunteers while on assignment;
• Providing pre-assignment and post-assignment assistance to host organizations participating in the program, and working closely with host organizations while volunteers are in-country;
• Updating project information and data as needed;
• Producing comprehensive and quality program documents and reports;
• Monitoring and evaluating the quality and impact of volunteer assignments and projects;
• Maintaining working relationships and responding to requests for information from potential beneficiaries, partners, and donors;
• Representing the Farmer to Farmer program and coordinating with USAID and other stakeholders as indicated by the Country Coordinator; and
• Any other related duties as specified by the Country Director.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• A BSc in agriculture, rural development, economics or other relevant subject;
• Minimum three (3) years professional experience in agriculture sector;
• Valid driver’s license for at least three years;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; and
• Ability to carry and/or operateequipment pertaining to agriculture projects
