The successful candidate will assist in the formulation of policy and programmes and the development of strategic objectives for good industrial/employee relations practices.
The position also has responsibility for guiding line managers in the interpretation of relevant policies and contracts and in the resolution of conflicts and grievances.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develops and recommends the implementation of policies and programmes that are designed to minimize conflicts and to promote and maintain industrial harmony.
Conducts Union negotiations with established bargaining units.
Intervenes when disputes have escalated above the scope of the departmental level, liaising with the respective union, delegate, manager and employee.
Researches market information, analyses unions claims and formulates negotiation strategies in conjunction with the Manager, HRD&A in response to claims for each bargaining unit.
Conducts regular IR training sessions to ensure proper understanding of the IR process.
Advises management on the interpretation and application of Labour Relations policies and practices.
Studies legislation, arbitration decisions and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends in order to provide the Company with sound advice and negotiating strategies.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Highly developed interpersonal and human relations skills.
Sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to discern underlying factors in disputes and grievances.
Displays professionalism, maturity and discipline
