Stress busters

EAT RIGHT: Timing oneself to take meals at ease, and having consideration for proper balanced nutrition can get rid of restlessness, irritability, outbursts of anger, poor concentration, weakness and many illnesses of the body.
Educate yourself regarding amounts of starch, proteins, oils and fats, vegetables and fruits and water needed for your daily living. As simple as 6 – 8 glasses of water per day can get your immune system strengthened, flush out impurities through your kidneys and keep you in proper motion (defecation).

EXERCISE REGULARLY: Competitive or non-competitive workout of all body muscles can reduce tension and anxiety at the workplace and benefit the body in many ways – Reducing weight, reducing cholesterol and blood sugar and thus improving blood pressure and heart conditions. One will also actually sleep better and feel good emotionally.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP: Anyone knows when he or she needs more or less sleep. It is recommended that one needs 6 – 8 hours deep sleep to rejuvenate the body. The word ‘rejuvenate’ means – to make one young, feel like you are renewed and willing to tackle the mountain. This deep sleep can be achieved naturally by ‘early to bed, early to rise’ – discipline.

A few useful hints to get good natural sleep are
(a) freshening up bath
(b) exercise a little – free arm, touch toes, marching on the spot, etc.
(c) keep room well ventilated – not too hot, not too cold, use fan or air-conditioner when necessary
(d) Avoid alcohol and smoking as these cause restlessness
(e) avoid teas and coffee shortly before retiring
(f) snacks – keep a gap of half hour to one hour, do not jump into bed shortly after meal, no matter how tired you are.

Sit for a little while, watch T.V., and listen to the radio. Praying, reading a scriptural message all help to release stresses before getting to sleep.

Sleep deprivation can cause nervous breakdown, feeling of anxiety, depression and even psychosis (madness).

Overwork and physical fatigue with little or no sleep can cause muscular cramps and muscle contractions, poor memory and poor concentration, and accidents at the workplace. Emotional stresses, family issues, financial stress, physical diseases e.g. Cancer in a family member can disrupt all regulated systems. Beyond sympathy and care, we need the body to be regulated.

RELAXATION: Play or recreation – for 8 hours per day can put any in high gear. Practice of any of the following ten talents can produce enough endorphins, a hormone that is produced by our brain to neutralise all negativity of adrenaline and hydrocortisone, which can maximize work efficiency.

Regular practice of smiling, laughing, praying, meditating, appreciating beauty, appreciating music, exercising vigorously (especially for those with sedentary jobs), body care (bath, meals and bowel care), rest and giving god thanks (being thankful for everyone and everything – especially the negatives which challenge us to higher spiritual and mental and physical growth). These practices are freely available, cost nothing, and can neutralize all the negative poisons in the body.
