Commissioner Lewin would not provide any detail on his reason for stepping down from the force.

Contacted by our news centre, Commissioner Lewin would only say he is now clearing his desk to demit office on Friday when his resignation takes effect.

The outgoing commissioner said by that time, the Police Service Commission should announce a new commissioner or an acting commissioner.

However he will not officially leave the force until he has taken up his vacation leave.

Commissioner Lewin did not say how long his vacation would be.
