Harry Daley case put off

The corruption trial of Superintendent Harry Daley did not go on as expected today in the Corporate Area Resident’s Magistrates Court.

The trial was put off because the witnesses for the defence were not present.

Superintendent Daley is on trial for allegedly collecting protection money for a shopping complex in St. Catherine.

Daley is facing six counts of extortion and six counts of breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

The matter is expected to resume tomorrow, with witnesses for the defence being called to the stand.

The former head of the St Catherine North Division was arrested on July 31 last year after he was allegedly videotaped collecting $15,000 from the complainant Tafari Clarke.

The money had reportedly been marked by detectives from the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Its alleged that Daley collected a total of $65,000 from the complainant between May 2007 and July 2008.
