Hardley Lewin demits office today

Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin demits office today.

Admiral Lewin resigned as the head of the island’s police force on Sunday, November 1.

His resignation has created much public debate about the possible reasons for the move.

In Parliament this week, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said Admiral Lewin did not give any reason in his resignation letter.

Mr. Golding said his government had earlier indicated that it had lost confidence in the ability of the admiral to manage the spiraling crime rate.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations and crime, Owen Ellington, has been appointed to act as Police Commissioner starting tomorrow.
