JMA disappointed by Digicel raid
The Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) says last Friday’s raid by Tax Administration Jamaica on Digicel’s office was reprehensible.
The JMA says it’s deeply concerned and disappointed by the manner in which the tax authorities sought to get information on the general consumption tax paid by Digicel.
It says the operation speaks volumes about how businesses are treated in Jamaica.
The JMA says while it does not object to Tax Administration carrying out its audits of companies, the agency must be mindful of the message being sent to local and overseas investors.
According to the JMA, the nature of the raid done at Digicel does not portray Jamaica as investor-friendly or the place to do business.
