Truckers contracted to transport material to the Palisadoes road project are expected to resume duties this weekend after a two-week standoff with their employers.

The truckers were protesting against low haulage rates and poor working conditions.

On Thursday Junior Works Minister, Richard Azan, intervened in the dispute in an effort to broker agreement among the truckers, sub-contractors and the main contractor China Harbour Engineering Company.

President of the All Island Truckers’ Association Leonard Green, says the agreement represents a compromise.

He says while the actions of the truckers have had little impact on the project to date, a continued standoff would have had serious implications for the cost and completion timeline.

The project is expected to be completed in October at a cost of US$65 million.
