It appears last year’s interception by the police of the abductors of a Mount Alvernia preparatory student was a mere coincidence.

When the case resumed yesterday in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, Constable Mark Salmon of the Montego Bay Highway Patrol Unit, testified that he was on duty along the Coral Gardens roadway on the night of the kidnapping.

He said he had just stopped a grey Toyota Camry with three of the accused for a traffic violation.

Constable Salmon said during the routine inspection, he received a transmission over the police radio with information on the abduction, and as a result the men and their vehicle were held.

Twenty-three-year-old cabinet-maker, Jonathan Mitchell of Spaldings, Manchester, 22-year-old barber, Trevon Tomlinson of Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay, 26-year-old counsellor, Jenise Regisford of Bloomfield, Connecticut, and a 16-year-old boy are all charged in connection with the abduction.

The child was taken from the Mount Alvernia Preparatory School on May 3, 2011.

The child was reportedly snatched while waiting to be picked up at school by his parents.

He was later found unharmed and the four accused, along with two other individuals, were arrested and charged.

The case will resume on Wednesday.
