The Constabulary Communication Network is reporting that members of the St James Police division have received several threats in recent days.

As a result, the Police High Command has placed members who live and work in the parish on high alert.

The police say the threats are linked to the June 30 fatal shooting of Kenardo Edwards of Onatario, Canada.

Edwards’ cronies have reportedly vowed to exact revenge for his death and have threatened a police sergeant and a constable in particular.

The High Command says members should therefore be cautious while on and off duty.

Members are also being reminded to act lawfully and with respect for human rights should the need arise to repel an attack.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Owen Ellington is encouraging police personnel working in St James and adjoining parishes not to be deterred by threats as they seek to bring to justice, those involved in the lottery scam.

Kenardo Edwards, otherwise called ‘Travis Hewitt’ and ‘Joe’, 33, who, the police say was a high-profile figure in the lottery scam, was fatally shot by cops in Camrose district, St. James.

Two high-powered rifles - an M4 Winchester Rifle and a Colt AR-15 Assault Rifle - and thirty-two 5.56 cartridges were reportedly seized during the incident.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing the matter.
