The Transport Authority says it will be extending the motor vehicle amnesty which is now on to give owners more time in which to recover their vehicles.

The three month amnesty, which began on April 16, should have expired next week.

But the Authority says based on the number of persons who have turned up to recover their vehicles the decision was taken to extend the amnesty by a month.

Manager of Communication & Customer Services at the agency, Petra-kene Williams, says so far only 11 per cent of the 1,300 vehicles which are in pounds across the island have been disposed of.

She says vehicles which remain unclaimed after the amnesty expires will be auctioned.

Under the amnesty, where the valuation of a vehicle is greater than the outstanding storage fees, individuals will receive a 70 per cent discount on the amount of fees owed.

And where the value of the motor vehicle is less than the outstanding storage charges, owners will pay 50 percent of the value of the vehicle.
