BARCELONA, Spain:
Jamaican athletes, Javarn Gallimore and Simoya Campbell, who fell ill on yesterday’s second day of the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships are in high spirits and ready to compete once more for their country.

Gallimore, a 400m hurdler, hit the track in the semi-finals and displayed no sign of the dehydration problem which led to his feeling weak and dizzy after the first round yesterday.

Gallimore has advanced to the final with a world junior leading time of 50.45 seconds.

Team doctor, Lincoln Cox, also reported that Gallimore is now OK.

Meanwhile, Campbell, who missed the semi-final of the 800m after fainting, is keen to feature on the 4x400m team.

But no so fast.

“It is dependent on how we see her, but she is very enthusiastic and wants to compete,” head coach Michael Dyke shared.

“Everything so far has been inconclusive; there is nothing to show that there is anything wrong with her, as all the tests came back negative,” he added.

But Cox recommends that she does not compete any further.
