One of the four men charged with the murders of a well-known HIV activist and another man has been denied bail, although he has been in custody for six years without facing a trial.

Senior Puisne Judge Gloria Smith turned down the bail application for Dwayne Owen on the grounds that the allegations were serious.

He is charged in relation to the murders of HIV activist, Steve Harvey, and 28-year-old financial analyst, Jaime Lue.

The other men who are charged jointly with Owen are André West, Ryan Wilson and Lynford Allen.

They have been remanded to return to the Home Circuit Court on July 27.

The four have been in custody since 2006.

Dr Randolph Williams, who is representing Owen, made the application on the basis that the Crown could not proceed against his client in relation to Lue’s death.

However, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Meridian Kholer opposed the application.

She admitted the Crown could only proceed against Allen in relation to the Lue murder case.

However, she said the crown is proceeding against the four men in relation to Harvey's murder.
