Public awaits word on Troupe after PNP exec meeting today

The People’s National Party (PNP) is expected after its National Executive Council meeting today to respond to the firearm charge against deputy mayor of Montego Bay, Michael Troupe.

The 51-year-old deputy mayor of Montego Bay and his 21-year-old son Jevaughn were arrested on Wednesday during an operation conducted by the Lottery Scam Task Force in Granville, St James.

Both are to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in relation to the illegal possession of firearm charge.

PNP councillor of the Salt Spring division, Sylvan Reid, who was also detained by the police in connection with the lotto scam, is yet to be charged by the police.

The PNP had said it would release a statement yesterday, but later back-pedalled and said it would wait until after today’s meeting at the University at the West Indies.

On Wednesday, general secretary of the PNP, Peter Bunting, said the party would ask both Troupe and Councillor Sylvan Reid to resign if they are charged by the police.
