Albert vows to mount equestrian challenge

LONDON, England:
Jamaican equestrian Samanatha Albert is targeting a top 25 finish but she would have to make a strong comeback after a challenging start to her individual eventing competition at Greenwich Park.

Albert, who scored 67.20 penalty points, was ranked 21st of 23 riders, with over 50 riders left to compete in the first of three disciplines that make of the eventing competition.

Albert, who became the first Jamaican equestrian Olympian in Beijing four years ago, will need near perfect scores in the cross country and show jumping tests, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday.

Albert told The Gleaner that she was well aware of the difficult spot she was now in, but will be giving it her all in the next tests.

“I hope I can still make it up. There is everything to go for now, there is nothing to lose I'm just going to go there and do our best,” said Albert who is riding Carraig Dubh at these games.
