Culture Minister Lisa Hanna has declared that the Jamaica 50 celebrations were a success.

Speaking at a press conference today Hanna said the events were pulled-off seamlessly and without incident and that all the main objectives were all met.

These include highlighting the nation’s achievements since 1962, raising the profile of brand Jamaican, creating public-private partnerships and galvanizing Jamaicans to move the country forward.

The culture minister has also lauded the Jamaica 50 secretariat and ordinary Jamaicans for making the celebrations a success.

She also says several lessons have been learned and efforts are to be made to fine-tune the model used to execute Jamaica 50.

Hanna announced that a committee set up to carry out Jamaica 50 legacy projects will soon begin its work and details will be announced later in the year.

Meanwhile Jamaica 50 project director Robert Bryan, said despite initial cynicism and apathy in sections of the society, Jamaicans came together and celebrated in unity and with national pride.

Bryan also said it appeared that the Jamaica 50 celebrations were kept within budget.

The government had budgeted $688 million for the celebrations with about $204 million coming from the private sector.
