PM lauds plans to introduce Garvey teachings in schools
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has praised plans by the Education Ministry to introduce the teachings of National Hero Marcus Garvey in schools.
Education Minister Ronald Thwaites announced this week that Garvey’s teachings will form part of the re-introduction of civics to the school curriculum.
In a statement released by Jamaica House yesterday, Simpson Miller said exposing children to Garvey’s philosophy will not only inspire solutions that will transform Jamaica, but will help them discover the greatness within.
She says the way is now clear for children and the entire society to learn, in a structured way, the philosophies of the country’s first national hero.
Simpson Miller appealed to students to take the teachings seriously, analyse them and use them to fashion their future.
