President of the Jamaican Bar Association Ian Wilkinson has expressed regret at death of noted attorney-at-law Clover Graham saying she has contributed positively to legal aid service in Jamaica.

Mrs Graham was an advisor at the Legal Aid Clinic for many years and also lectured at the University of Technology and the Norman Manley Law School on the Mona campus of The University of the West Indies.

Mr Wilkinson, who himself worked with Mrs Graham for several years, says the circumstances of her death were not only ironic but very sad.

He expressed condolences on behalf of the Bar Association and hope that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Mrs Graham’s 24 year-old son, Taiwo Mckenzie and his girlfriend, Jhanel Whyte were killed in a similar manner five years ago.

The couple, who were dubbed as the ‘Good Samaritans', were found with their throats slashed in Smokey Vale, St Andrew.

They were tied up and gagged after they went to Havendale to give medical supplies to an injured man on November 7, 2007.

Two men, 24-year-old André Ennis of Havendale, St Andrew, and 24-year-old Passmore Millings, also called Shane Brown, of Gregory Park, St Catherine were convicted of their murders on June 20.

Meanwhile, Mr Wilkinson says Mrs Graham’s murder has moved him to encourage defence lawyers to adopt a more comprehensive approach to their practice and to advocate for certain improvements to the legal system.

That includes changes to the Notice of Alibi Evidence legislation and improvements to criminal case management.
