Kingston police give 200 children back-to-school supplies

The Kingston Central police have provided over 200 children from the downtown Kingston area with a variety of back-to-school supplies.

The police personnel attached to the station have also adopted a number of children who were among those evicted from premises along Duke Street.

Deputy Superintendent Lena McBean, who is the head of the Community Safety and Security Branch for Kingston Central, says the gesture was an attempt to provide some assistance to residents from the surrounding communities.

McBean says the students were chosen based on their performance and financial background.

The supplies, which included schools bags and books, were presented during the annual treat held at the Kingston Central Police Station yesterday.
