James to receive half-a-million dollars in bonds

Olympic 400m champion Kirani James is to receive half-a-million eastern-Caribbean dollars in Government bonds, as part of a package announced by the Grenadian government.

The other incentives include an athletic stadium to be built by China that will be named after him, the publishing of commemorative stamps in his honour, and the designation as a tourism Ambassador.

A museum, and a resource and fitness centre will be built in Kirani’s hometown, Gouyave.

The announcements were made by Grenada Prime Minister Tillman Thomas at the weekend a rally attended by thousands at the country’s National Stadium.

James also received a quantity of jewelry including a necklace, bracelet, a ring and a watch from Columbian emeralds, and $100,000 eastern-Caribbean dollars from Republic Bank.

James’ parents were also presented with gift packages.
