Personal best throw for Tanto
Jamaica’s Tanto Campbell threw a personal-best but failed to win a medal in the men’s F54/55/56 discus final at the London 2012 Paralympic Games today.
The 26-year-old Campbell threw 41.66 metres for fifth place with 972 points.
Cuba’s Leonardo Diaz won the gold medal with a world record throw of 44.63 metres.
The silver medal went to Drazenko Mitrovic of Serbia, who threw 32.97 metres, also a world record.
Mitrovic was awarded 1012 points, seven points more than the gold medal winner, because of his higher level of disability.
Ali Mohammad Yari of Iran took the bronze medal with a season-best throw of 41 point 9-8 metres.
Two Jamaicans will be in action tomorrow.
Alphanso Cunningham competes in the men’s F51/52/53 discus final, while Sylvia Grant will bow into action for the first time. Grant competes in the women’s F57/58 Javelin Throw final.
The 32-year-old Cunningham won Jamaica’s only medal so far. Cunningham won the gold in the men’s F52-53 javelin throw yesterday. |
