Falconer responds to Supreme Court rat infestation
Minister with responsibility for Information Sandrea Falconer has indicated that steps will be taken to address the infestation problem at the Supreme Court building in downtown Kingston.
This comes amid reports the building is being overrun by rats and cockroaches.
Staff members have expressed fear that persons are at risk of being exposed to serious health hazards if the situation is not remedied.
Speaking at yesterday’s post cabinet press briefing, Falconer said the government has taken note of the situation and the matter will get some attention from the Clean Up Jamaica programme.
Opposition spokesman on Justice Delroy Chuck has criticised the government for not properly maintaining the Supreme Court building.
Vice president of the Jamaican Bar Association, Valerie Neita Robertson, said the infestation problem at the Supreme Court would not be solved unless steps were taken by the government to clean up the entire city.
