Drug charges against Busy Signal weak, says attorney
A United States-based attorney has described the drug charges hanging over Jamaican entertainer Busy Signal as very weak.
William Mauzy, who represented the entertainer at his sentencing hearing in the state of Minnesota on Friday, says he formed the opinion after reviewing all the information prosecutors had gathered in the case.
Busy Signal, whose real name is Glendale Gordon, was charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine in Minnesota in 2002, but absconded bail and returned to Jamaica before the trial started.
He was arrested in Jamaica and later extradited to the US where he pleaded guilty to absconding bail and was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 30 thousand dollars.
But Mr Mauzy says he believe the entertainer would have won the case easily had he gone to trial.
He says he does not believe that prosecutors will continue pursuing those charges. |
