Stopover visitors to Jamaica grow

Jamaica has recorded its best stopover arrival numbers in history for the month of September.

The tourism minister, Dr Whykeham McNeill, revealed that there were 94,627 stopover visitors to Jamaica last month, a 6.5 per cent increase over September last year.

Dr McNeill says the gains from the recently concluded Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) trade show should contribute to a continued growth in arrivals this year. According to the minister, the event was a “resounding success” as it provided a boost for local suppliers and other players in the tourism industry and set the stage for a successful winter tourist season.

He says the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association played an important role in the success of JAPEX and congratulated them for bringing together some of the industry’s most important partners.
