New customs rules for hotel alcohol tax concession

The Jamaica Customs Department has announced new requirements for registered Hotel or Resort Cottage Operators to benefit from the alcohol duty concession.

The Customs Department said effective today, the entities will be required to sign and stamp all invoices, purchase orders, delivery slips and special declarations in order to access the incentive.

The incentive offers a concessionary Special Consumption Tax Specific rate of $700 per litre of pure alcohol.

Jamaica Customs said Hotel and Resort Cottages Operators, who fail to present the required documents will have to pay the full duty of $960 per litre.

However, a new filing with the appropriate documents can be made later in order to receive a refund.

Jamaica Customs said the new policy allows for the equitable application of the concession and effective collection of much-needed revenue.
