Jamaica to partner with int’l company to resolve medical negligence cases

Barbara Gayle, Justice Coordinator

The increasing in complaints about medical negligence have resulted in Jamaican company Future Services International (FSI) partnering with a Canadian health risk management company to assist victims.

Managing Director of FSI, Yaneek Page, said the Canadian company is regarded as a leading authority in medical record and health information analysis in Canada for over 10 years.

Page said the company has capabilities ranging from locating a single expert for a medical malpractice lawsuit to developing teams of experts for class action suits.

She said the partnership will help Jamaicans to obtain independent medical opinions and reports.

She pointed out that it is difficult for claimants in medical negligence cases to get opinions or reports from local medical doctors, as they are often unwilling to give evidence against their colleagues.

She said the services being provided by the independent overseas medical doctors will allow persons who feel they have been wronged to get justice.

She is optimistic that the partnership will encourage a culture of patient safety and empowerment that will improve health care outcomes for the wider society.
