The Standing Orders Committee of the House of Representatives has recommended that members of the media dress in a similar manner as parliamentarians when attending meetings of the House.

The dress code that has been agreed for parliamentarians is a business suit and neck tie for men, a sleeved business dress or skirt suit with modest length, or pant suit for women.

South West St Catherine MP Everald Warmington has moved a private members motion for the Standing Orders Committee to study and submit a comprehensive recommendation to Parliament for adoption.

The committee, which delivered its report today, said students and members of the security forces must wear uniforms when attending the Parliament.

The Committee also recommended that visitors to the galleries must be appropriately dressed. It further said men should wear at least a shirt which is buttoned, and women dressed in clothing that do not reveal body parts or does not look indecent.

If the recommendations are adopted, persons will not be allowed to wear jeans, T-shirt, mini-skirts, tube-tops, tank-tops, sleeveless, flip flop slippers or cropped pants to Parliament.
