PNP: Holness statements unpatriotic

The People’s National Party (PNP) has described as unpatriotic and troubling the statements made by the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, at the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) annual conference over the weekend.

Holness had chastised the Portia Simpson Miller-led administration for its running of the country.

He blasted the government particularly for its failure to seal a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) almost a year after coming to power.

Today, PNP Chairman Robert Pickersgill fired back describing the opposition leader’s statements as dangerous.

Pickersgill also accused the JLP of seeking to mislead the public concerning critical issues facing the country particularly as it relates to the IMF negotiations.

He also noted that the JLP administration had failed to honour several commitments under the deal with the IMF.

According to him, agreements entered in by the previous Administration were also being ignored.

The PNP party chairman also blasted Andrew Holness for the tone of his presentation during the JLP’s annual conference.

According to him, now is not the time in Jamaica’s development for anyone to embark on such reckless and unhelpful rhetoric.

In the meantime, PNP General Secretary Peter Bunting said the statements by Andrew Holness only serve to destabilise the economy.
