December 14 hearing for alleged St Thomas killer cop

A December 14 date has been set for a plea and case management hearing in the murder case involving Corporal Dwayne Smart.

Smart is charged with the shooting death of 27-year-old Kay-Ann Lamont in Yallahs Square, St. Thomas.

However, his attorney said there are issues to be addressed and so an application for bail was not made this morning.

Smart has been in custody since September 1.

It is reported that Lamont, and the policeman got into an altercation, after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language.

During the scuffle, the pregnant woman was shot twice in the head, reportedly by the policeman.

Her sister was also shot and injured in the incident.

Smart is being represented by Attorney-at-law Valerie Neita Robertson.
