The Police Traffic Department is reporting that its drive to crack down on illegal activities in St. James has been successful.

Head of the Department, Senior Superintendent of Police Radcliffe Lewis, said over the past two days operational teams issued hundreds of tickets and dozens of summonses.

SSP Lewis said between Tuesday and yesterday 434 traffic tickets were issued to motorists, 161 summonses served, 46 vehicles seized, and 18 license plates removed.

He said one person was arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, the head of the traffic division said an operation was also carried out yesterday along several Montego Bay streets known for illegal garages.

SSP Lewis said operators were given two hours to clear the area or face harsh action and they complied.

He said in addition to clamping down on traffic violations, others crimes such as drugs, gun and involvement in the lottery scam are also being targeted.

The police say the St James operation will continue into next week.
