Police attempt to determine make of rifle found in Portmore

The police seized a high-powered rifle with two rounds of ammunition in Portmore, St Catherine this morning.

However, the lawmen are yet to determine the make and model of the weapon, which was seized during an operation at 4 a.m. in the Pigeon Shoot fishing village, Portmore Parkway. The cops say the weapon was fitted with a telescopic device to improve accuracy when firing at targets.

No one has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington says the seizure is evidence of the dangers the police face daily. He has urged the police remain vigilant, and to take care for their personal safety, even as they continue to strive for the highest ideals of professionalism in law enforcement.
