Financial expert Dennis Chung is urging the government to display the leadership and political will needed to get the country back on a path of growth in the new year.

Among the issues Chung wants the government to address next year is bureaucracy in the public sector.

He noted that while certain policies exist which are aimed at boosting the economy, they have failed or their implementation has been delayed because of bureaucracy.

Chung said the government must also tackle the breakdown of law and order in the society and outline short to medium term strategies for next year, to address the challenges facing Jamaica.

Chung wants the government to implement measures to improve the country’s Justice System.

He said policy decisions must also be taken to radically cut the country’s oil and food import bills.

He said civil society must also play a role in influencing the change.
