Alleged St Thomas killer cop further remanded

Corporal Dwayne Smart, the policeman charged with the murder of a pregnant woman in St Thomas, is to return to court on March 1 when the case will again be mentioned.

When the case was called up in the Home Circuit Court on Friday the prosecution provided the defense with CDs it intends to use in the case.

The defense team then informed the court that it needed time to review the CDs with its expert.

The case was then put off and Smart further remanded.

The policeman is charged with murder, wounding with intent, assault, and illegal possession of a firearm.

He has been in custody since September 1, 2012 following the shooting death of Kay-Ann Lamont.

It is reported that Lamont and the policeman got into an altercation after he attempted to arrest her for using indecent language.

During the scuffle, Corporal Smart reportedly shot the pregnant woman twice in the head, killing her.

Corporal Smart then reportedly shot Lamont’s sister in the shoulder.

It’s further reported that the policeman attempted to shoot another sister but she escaped.
