JPS rids over 2,000 illegal connections in St Andrew

One man has been arrested and almost 2,400 illegal wires removed from the Jamaica PUblic Service (JPS) infrastructure, as the company continued what it says will be sustained islandwide operations, to significantly reduce losses due to the illegal abstraction of electricity.

The operation was conducted by teams from the JPS and members of the security forces in the communities of Olympic Way and Waterhouse in St. Andrew yesterday.

The operation revealed 160 cases of self-reconnections and other illegal connections.

Head of Security at the JPS, Major George Kates, said the operations will be sustained for as long as is necessary, to significantly reduce losses due to the illegal abstraction of electricity.

He said last year, the Company spent US$30 million fighting the illegal activity.
