Chairman of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA), Lyttleton Shirley says he is satisfied with the level of security at hospitals and health facilities under the authority.

Shirley was speaking against the background of a recent incident in which criminals ventured on to the May Pen hospital compound in Clarendon and fatally shot a male patient.

Shirley said the authority takes the security of all users of health facilities very serious and as such discussions about security have become a normal feature of scheduled meetings.

Shirley said the South East Regional Health Authority uses a combination of private security guards, police patrols and closed circuit TV to provide protection.

However, he said the authority recognises there are risks and these are being assessed and dealt with on an ongoing basis.
