India beat WI Women in World Cup opener
West Indies Women suffered a disastrous start at the ICC Women’s World Cup as they crashed to a 105-run defeat to hosts India in the tournament’s opener in Mumbai today.
Set a victory target of 285, West Indies Women were bowled out for 179 off 44.3 overs.
Deandra Dottin top scored for West Indies Women with 39 from 16 balls, while Shanel Daley chipped in with 28 and her Jamaican teammate Stafanie Taylor scored only nine runs.
Earlier, Thirush Kamini cracked an even century to guide India Women to 284 for five off their 50 overs. Poonam Raut supported with 71.
Dottin was the most successful bowler for the Caribbean side with three for 32 from four overs, while Daley had one for 51 off nine overs.
As a result of the victory, India Women have taken the early lead in Group ‘A’ with two points.
Group ‘B’ begins tomorrow with three matches.
West Indies will next be in action on Sunday against South Africa in Mumbai.
