NWA to implement safety measures in Negril

The National Works Agency (NWA) says measures are to be implemented to enhance the safety of motorists who use Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril.

Communications Manager Stephen Shaw says among the measures are plans to install more traffic signals as part of a wider traffic management programme in the parish.

He says some traffic signals have already been installed in resort areas in an effort to reduce the likelihood of road crashes.

He says work will also be done on sidewalks in the resort town.

Shaw says consideration is also being given to the prospect of installing cameras in some areas.

He says the initiative is being done in collaboration with business owners in Negril and should be completed by mid year.

In the meantime, Shaw says a road patching programme is now underway in Trelawny.

He says the roadways to be targeted include Falmouth to Pillars, Bengal Bridge to Falmouth, Hamden to Wakefield, Wakefield to Friendship and Rock to Stewart Town.
