Bahamas: J'can woman charged with trafficking of persons
A 23-year-old Jamaican woman has been charged with the trafficking of persons for the purpose of prostitution in The Bahamas.
Reports say Chevaneese Sashagaye Hall is accused of bringing two other Jamaican women into The Bahamas by fraudulent means between January 10 and 28.
She was also charged with unlawfully withholding the women’s passports and transporting the women through the country for the purposes of prostitution in contravention of the Trafficking in Person Act.
The Jamaican was also charged with threatening to kill one of the women.
During her appearance in court yesterday, she was not required to enter a plea as her case is set to be transferred to the Supreme Court.
Hall was remanded and is scheduled to reappear in court on May 10.
Prosecutors have described her as a flight risk as they say she has no status in The Bahamas.
