CAPI decries new tax package

The group, Citizens Action for Principle and Integrity (CAPI), has joined in the criticisms of the Government’s $15.9 billion tax package.

Co-convenor of CAPI, Dennis Meadows, says the Government’s move illustrates its chronic inability to be honest with Jamaicans.

He is upset that the Government did not inform key sector leaders of the multibillion-dollar tax package before announcing the measure.

Meadows has also described the action as manipulative and deceptive and one that will engender distrust among the very stakeholders whose support it needs to realise its economic structural objectives.

He insists that the Government should have consulted with key stakeholders before increasing taxes.

Meadows is calling for the Portia Simpson Miller-led administration to review the tax measures.

Some private sector leaders have already said that the manner in which the $15.9 billion tax package was announced has shattered their confidence in the PNP Administration.
