An attempt is to be made tomorrow by the Ministry of Labour to convene a meeting between the National Workers’ Union (NWU), and Lamasa Janitorial Limited to discuss outstanding sums owed to more than 400 former workers.
The ministry has been setting meetings since last December for the parties to discuss the matter but the management of Lamasa has reportedly stayed away.
This has upset the union and the former employees, who say they are running out of patience.
NWU President Vincent Morrison says the ministry has written to the union and the company proposing a meeting for 2 o’ clock tomorrow.
The positions of more than 400 workers at Lamasa were made redundant last December.
The move followed the ending of Lamasa’s contract with the Government to provide ancillary services to the Bustamante Hospital for Children and the Kingston and Victoria Jubilee hospitals.
The workers are owed outstanding sums in notice pay, redundancy and allowances.
