Phillips announces increased customs fees on petroleum products

Daraine Luton, Senior Staff Reporter

The Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips today tabled in the House of Representatives, clarification to the fee structures at Jamaica Customs which were passed in the $15.9 billion tax package in the House last week.

The clarification indicates that there has been an increase in the Customs fees for petroleum products.

However, the Finance Minister couldn't definitively say whether today’s revelation will result in more than the projected $15.9 billion revenue yield.

He said he will report on that matter in the House next week.

The new structure is as follows:

*Customs Administrative Fee - Petroleum
-Unleaded gasolene (87 octane) per litre $3.50
-Unleaded gasolene (90 octane) per litre $3.50
-Diesel oil per litre $3.50
-Crude oil per litre $3.50
-Ethanol per litre $1.00
-Butane/propane and other natural gases per litre $1.00
-Lubricating oils per kg $20
-Hydraulic brake fluids and other prepared liquids for hydraulic transmission - per kg $20

The revenue measures also indicate the new fee structure for other items at customs.

*Private Warehouse Fees $75,000
*Authorisation of a person act for another $5,000
*Shipping bill for export $3,000
*Import entry $2,000
*Letter clearance $10,000
*Customs Brokers Licencing fee (new and renewal) individual $20,000
*Customs Brokers Licencing fee (new and renewal) body corporate $25,000
*Denovo entries $5,000

The ministry paper states that processing fees that have not been captured in the listing presented to Parliament will attract a fee of $2,500.
