Nine hospitalised after taxi collision

Nine people are now in hospital in serious condition after two illegal taxis which police investigators say were racing, crashed along Molynes Road, in St Andrew this morning.

According to the head of the Police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, some of the injuries are grave and could result in fatalities.

The police report that the two illegal taxis, one of them carrying five persons and the other carrying four passengers, were speeding in opposition direction along Molynes Road.

It is reported that one of the driver attempted to turn onto Sandringham Avenue, ahead of the other vehicle, when both cars collided.

Speaking to the Gleaner-Power 106 News Centre this morning, Senior Superintendent Lewis warned of tougher action against illegal taxi operators.
