Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis says he will be advising the victims of this morning’s crash and other persons injured in accidents involving illegal taxi operators to sue their insurance companies.
The head of the Police Traffic Division says he is prepared to attend court and give evidence on their behalf.
Lewis says he is making the recommendation because some insurance companies continue to ignore the plea by the police to stop insuring vehicles that are being used as illegal taxis.
He says the police have met with the Insurance Association of Jamaica and individual companies and have provided them with the names of drivers and the identification number of vehicles engaging in the illegal practice.
However, he says these illegal operators are still being facilitated by the insurance companies.
